ESP视角下中医药院校学生英语词汇水平的调查与分析*——以北京中医药大学为例

摘要: 随着中医药国际化步伐的加快,中医药院校越来越关注学生专门用途英语(ESP)英语能力的培养。以北京中医药大学选修ESP医学英语课程的大学二年级学生为研究对象,对其词汇水平从量与质两个维度进行了调查,旨在了解其词汇水平及发展变化,并从词汇角度来探讨对中医院校ESP教学的启示。从调查结果可知,学生在接受性与产出性词汇量的总体上均有所提升,但增幅有限;学生在词汇产出上与接受性词汇量相关系数不高,未能协调同步发展;被试个体的词汇水平差异较大。因此,建议通过提前渗透ESP词汇学习、加强词汇产出能力培养、加大ESP师资培养等方式来提升中医院校的ESP教学。

Abstract: With accelerated internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine, TCM colleges and universities are paying more and more attention to cultivate English for Specific Purposes (ESP) specialized English proficiency for students. This paper analyzed major implications on ESP teaching from the perspective of vocabulary level by investigating vocabulary size and its development for students who have selected medical English course in Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. Their vocabulary were evaluated from a quantitative and qualitative dimension. Results showed students’ overall receptive and productive amount of vocabulary had increased, but the increase was limited. The correlation coefficient between students’ receptive and productive vocabulary was not high, indicating an imbalanced development between them. There was significant disparities among students’ individual vocabulary levels. It is recommended to improve ESP teaching by infiltrating ESP vocabulary learning in advance, strengthening vocabulary output ability and enhancing training of ESP teachers in TCM colleges and universities.
